VERENICE TORRES,
  CO-PRESIDENT

Verenice Torres is a sophomore in Silliman College from Antelope, California. She is an English major, but interestingly cannot write. Aside from participating in GREEN as Co-President, she is also Silliman's Sustainability Liaison and one of the project chairs for the Yale Student Environmental Coalition (YSEC). She heads The Compost Bin Project, actively working to reduce waste and expand composting on campus. Verenice lives a zero waste and minimalist lifestyle, owning fewer than 100 things. She enjoys making her own products, watching sappy telenovelas, and reading and writing about romance. Some of her interests include indie rock, poetry, and veganism.

ALANA ERVIN,
CO-PRESIDENT

Alana is a rising sophomore in Ezra Stiles College majoring in political science and music. She is from rural New Hampshire and is taking a leave of absence this semester to work full time as a Field Organizer for the New Hampshire Democratic Coordinated Campaign. This fall, she is fighting for progressive policymakers who are committed to investing in sustainable energy and environmental policy in her home state. At Yale, you can find her exploring the wonderful city of New Haven, enjoying the various political organizations on campus, singing/producing/songwriting, and smiling all the time! She would love to talk with anyone about anything, so don’t hesitate to reach out! (:

As Outreach Liaison, Anna B is in charge of maintaining clear communication with our various stakeholders, such as the Office of Sustainability or the Yale Student Environmental Coalition. This entails attending meetings, sending emails, and giving or receiving updates on GREEN’s behalf to ensure that our work is tied to the greater environmental community on campus.

ANNA B ALBRIGHT, OUTREACH CHAIR

Ben Mehmedovic, originally from Branford, CT, is a sophomore in Saybrook College looking to double major in Math and Computer Science. He joined GREEN in an effort to help spread the importance of sustainability and to directly improve the sustainability of the campus community, a community that is not too far from his home town. Outside of GREEN, he is a part of the Yale Undergraduate Aerospace Association and the Yale Undergraduate Legal Aid Association. In his free time, Ben enjoys hiking, mountain biking, and spending time with his friends and family.

Madeline Meade is a junior from Chicago in Saybrook College studying Ecology & Evolutionary Biology. She hopes to pursue a career in conservation biology and/or zoology, and joined GREEN because of the potential to make a visible change in the carbon footprint of Yale as a whole; as Secretary, she is incredibly excited to keep both GREEN members and the broader Yale community informed of what the organization is currently working on. Outside of GREEN and classes, she is a member of the Yale Cheerleading team, works in the Vertebrate Zoology department of the Peabody Museum, conducts research in the Near Lab, and spends as much time as possible outdoors. While on a leave of absence for the fall 2020 semester, she is working in the field for the Idaho Conservation Corps.

Anna Albright (Hopper College, '22) is majoring in Environmental Studies & Data Science and dreams of bringing sustainability interests into realms which often ignore it, like finance. Aside from GREEN, she is on the board of Yale Student Environmental Coalition, Yale Student Investment Group, where she leads a sustainable investing group, and is the president of the Buddhist Sangha at Yale. She joined GREEN because she saw the efficacy of its action-oriented approach to sustainability, as a counter to the bureaucratic nature of other pro-environmental activism she has done.

As Social Chair, Jane organizes social events such as weekly meal tags, monthly baking or game nights, as well as end-of-term dinners, to help bring club members together. Through these events and through her presence in the club, she facilitates bonding and promotes a warm social atmosphere in GREEN.

Hi everyone, my name is Jane and I'm a junior in Branford majoring in Environmental Studies. In addition to GREEN, I'm a cook for Yale Pop-Up, Yale's pop up restaurant club. My interests lie at the intersection of food and sustainability. I love outdoor activities of all kinds. In my spare time you can find me cooking Chinese food, baking sourdough, and if it's summer, gardening.
